Lake Urmia
Iran’s salty lake Urmia has shrunk rapidly during the past few decades.
As it gets smaller, the lake grows saltier.
Over a few months, the green lake morphed into a bloody red colour because of the proliferation of Halobacteriaceae.
This type of bacteria thrives in extremely salty conditions,
producing a red by-product named bacterioruberin.
Through chemical processes occurring between substances,
I reenacted the tragedy.
